Bergsson Mathús
Offering an electric selection of fresh and
healthy flavours, this new addition to casual
downtown dining prides itself on the use of
local and seasonal produce. From their ingre-
dient list they turn out Middle Eastern, Soul
Food, vegetarian and vegan dishes that are
perfect when you need more than a snack,
but less than a full horse.

Café Haiti
Nestled in one of the former fishing
warehouses of the old harbour, Café Haiti
is surely one of Reykjavík's best cafés (and
this is no mean feat, as the city has some
nice coffee on offer). Go there for an excel-
lent cup and some delicious light snacks
during the day, or indulge in beer and low-
key concerts at night.
Geirsgata 7b / Verbúð 2
6 Þingholt Bar
Located in Center Hotel Þingholt, this bar is
tucked away just outside of the mayhem
that is Laugavegur on a weekend night. For
a quieter evening, lounge in their chic and
modern environment with one of the many
beers and cocktails on offer.
Center Hotel, Þingholtstræti 5
8 Mengi
Mengi (“Set”) was born as a place to host
intimate shows where the artist gets to
perform in front of small crowds. Hosting
anything from art performances, lectures
and workshops to music gigs, Mengi snugly
seats 50 people. Admission is generally
2,000 ISK, but guests are free to bring their
own drinks.

9Litli Bóndabærinn
If it’s a hot shot of strong java you need, this
take-away joint will dose you up with some
of the finest caffeinated beverages in town.
The small digs are dressed up in authentic
farm threads and the service will charm you
into wishing you could move in for a while.
Their international staff makes it especially
visitor-friendly.

The University of Iceland’s newly built student
lounge has quickly become the place to be
on campus. They boast a solid menu of tasty
and inexpensive pub-grub, a nice selection of
drinks and beers on tap to help unwind after
classes, and regularly host concerts to help
you rock out with your meal.

Café Loki
Café Loki is not only a place where one can
try all of Iceland's weird and wacky food-
stuffs, as well as some decidedly delicious,
unweird dishes. It's also a great little café that
locals love to frequent as well as a welcoming
place for tourists.

Hressó
Hressó is spacious neutral place with no
particular type of clientele, so it’s perfect
for lounging. Their menu spans a variety of
lunch dishes during the day and troubadours
and tap-beer are the order of the night. A
somewhat basic club during weekends, it is
notable for its size and amount of seats, as
well as a most excellent smoking area.

Hornið
Appropriately named ‘The Corner’ after its po-
sition on the street, this Reykjavík institution
is one of the oldest dining establishments in
the city. Opened in 1979, the family business
has been serving fantastic Italian fare in a
remarkably unique atmosphere. It is truly a
stand-alone restaurant in town and hands
down one of the best.
