VP-8 recently observed the
promotion of four members of
their team to Lt(jg). They are

Keflavik Girl Scouts enjoy camping at Hviebaki
During Memorial Day weekend more than 90
Keflavik Girl Scouts, leaders, and parents held a
camping trip at Camp Hviebaki. Over the weekend
many girls finished all requirements for troop
camper, Cook and the Horse Lover badges. Cadette
Troop 2/5 took a tour of the local hot pools and the
Childrens falls. A Wide Game was one of the many
highlights of the trip. A Wide Game is a discovering
activity where participants learned macrame,
origami, compass and trail signs, folk-dancing and
first aid. Other activities included horseback
riding, skits and hikes. In the evenings a council
gathering was held where each troop participated
with a skit, song or game. The leader's rendition
of chick-a-boom became a favorite and a bathing
suit beauty show was a real hit.
On 2 June, a Bridging and Fly-Up Ceremony was
held at A.T. Mahan High School for all girls who
will advance to the next level of Girl Scouting.
These girls will join new troops in the Fall. A
farewell plaque was given to Mary Westrick,
outgoing Neighborhood Chairperson, who introduced
Toni Ladd as her successor. Certificates of ap-
preciation were presented to Mr. and Mrs. Baker,
Mr. and Mrs. Wagel and to the Marines for their
support during our camping trip.
The Girl Scouts are always looking for adult
volunteers and new members. For more
