NATO women’s softball team takes first at NOREUR tourne
The NATO Base Women’s Softball Team
returned to Keflavfk last month with the first-
place trophies in the Northern European Soft-
ball Chamionship held at Royal Air Force
Base, Sculthorpe, U. K.
During the tournament, Keflavfk took the
field by storm and kept hitting throughout the
single, round-robin tournament, scoring 120
runs during the tournament. A tough defense
kept the competition to only four runs through-
out the tournament.
Julie Hash, who played second base and
short stop, was chosen the Most Valuable
Player for the tournament and Rend Ripol,
who played right field, received the trophy for
the most home runs with three.
Keflavfk started off strong when they beat
the defending champions, Simon Lake, 18-0.
In the second game, Keflavfk trounced Lon-
don, 29-1. The third game, against St. Mawgan,
the women were unstoppable and had yet an-
other win, 39-0. The next game with Thurso
only went three innings, due to the run rule,
and the Keflavfk team won again, 21-1. The
final game for Keflavfk was against Etzelle,
Scotland and the NATO Base women took
their fifth and final victory, 14-2.
