The winners of the Navy-wide 1992 Chief
of Information (CHINFO) and Air Force
Media Awards were recently announced.
Navy Broadcasting Service (NBS) Detach-
ment, Keflavfk, walked away with three first
I e CHINFO broadcasting awards and the
Force Detachment clinched a first place
!nish in the Media Awards for Best News
and Feature stories. All first place entries
will continue on to the Thomas Jefferson
Awards Competition.
NBS placed first in the Special Radio
Program with the “Elderly Brothers” show,
hosted by CW04 Thomas E. Jones, Officer
in Charge, NBS and RADM Thomas F. Hall,
former Commander, Iceland Defense Force.
SrA. Robert C. Bleir and A 1C Bill Conner
received first place awards for Best News and Feature
Stories in the Air Force competition for their televi-
sion pieces on “Navy Security Dogs” and “New
Lawnmowing Equipment", respectively.
J02 Todd E. Hansen (above) finished first in the
Radio Entertainment/Information Series. “When
someone told me that I had won, I was completely
shocked,” said Hansen, a Navy journalist who spent
seven years in the print journalism field. “I feel that
the great support from CW04 Jones, as well as the
other members of the detachment, helped better my
chances of placing well in the program.” This is his
first tour in the broadcasting field of journalism.
PH 1 (AW) Frank Pratt (left) placed first in the TV
Spot Production Catagory with his “Married with
Children”, “Geyser Safety” and “Sexual Harrass-
ment” entries. “I was very happy with the news that I
had won with my spot,” said Pratt. “Winning this
award makes me proud for the whole station and
everyone who put in the long hours.”
