The Home Layaway policy at the Navy
Exchange has changed. Spouses of service
members wishing to make a purchase must
now have a power of attorney. These
forms are available from Navy Legal at ext.
7900, and Air Force Legal at ext 4306.
PTO needs your involvement
The PTO needs parent’s and teacher’s help. To get involved with your school
PTO, a yearly family membership of $5 is required. Members are also required to
attend a monthly meeting. On Feb. 20 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., a “Kid Kuisinie”
will be held in the elementary school multi-purpose room. For more information,

February brings more wind and precipitation
February weather at Keflavik is similar to that experienced
during January. The Naval Air Station can expect to be in a wind
warning on the average of at least twice a week. Wind Chill
Condition II (-11 to -30F) is a common occurrence. In 1981, a
major storm generated gusts estimated to be between 95 and 115
knots. The wind sensors were blown away during the storm and
there is no official record of the maximum gust. The highest
official wind speed recorded was 76 knots in 1969. In 1991
another major storm moved through the area. The highest gust
generated by this storm was 95 knots. Measurable precipitation
occurs on an average of 18 days per month, with half of these
associated with frozen precipitation.
The hours of daylight increase from 7 hours and 11 minutes on
the 1st to 10 hours and 5 minutes cm the 28th of the month.
