Parental report cards provide valuable feedback Story by J03 (SW) Andreas Walter Report cards. To some of us these two words brought shivers to the spine, and a healthy dose of nail-biting anxiety. Some- times a dog just happened to be hungry... Well, during the past few weeks, parents of students attending A.T. Mahan schools at Naval Air Station, Keflavfk have received a 34-question survey in the mail. The survey is entitled, ‘Report Card from Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDs) Par- ents’, and “seeks to determine the attitudes of parents toward a broad range of issues that affect the school system,” said John Stremple, DoDDs director. This is the third time in the school’s history that parents have had the opportunity to grade their children’s schooling. “The surveys are mailed to the parents of each student. After this, the answers are tabulated for each school and region,” said Margaret Deatherage, A.T. Mahan High School principal. “The School Advisory Committee reviews these comments and disseminates the new ideas and problems to the school staff,” she added. Local concerns included a lack of extra- curricular activities for students at the ele- mentary school. “To ease the problem, the budget for such activities was increased by nearly $5,000,” according to Jan D. Long, A.T. Mahan Elementary school principal.
