Pins fall as 12 teams battle for trophies *

The top four bowling teams from three mixed base
leagues participated in the 1993 Naval Air Station, Keflavfk
Bowling Tournament. The action was intense for three
nights last week, as 120 participants from 12 teams pur-
sued trophies.
First place for the season went to the Hospital Pinfin-
ders. Second and third went to IDF and the Marines re-
spectively. The male high game scratch went to Tom Hull,
Pinfinders. Female high game went to Kim Workman, of
the Rollers.
Trophies were awarded to the top three teams as well as
individual members of the Hospital Pinfinders.
The summer bowling season is now organizing and will
roll into action during the week of May 24. Currently there
are nine leagues, which meet six days a week. The seasons
traditionally last 13 weeks. For more information on
joining one of the teams or just knocking over a few pins,

High schoolers

The soccer season is quickly coming to a
close, with A.T. Mahan’s soccer team just
returning from England where they partici-
pated in the U.K. West Intramural Scholastic
Soccer Championship.
The one-day tournament resulted in three
losses for the visiting A.T. Mahan players.
“Considering that this is our first time
participating in a tournament of this nature,
we did pretty well,” said DavidNojaim, soccer
and coach for the A.T. Mahan High School.
Six teams from throughout the U.K. re-
gion participated in the one-day event held at
Royal Air Force Base, Alconbury, May 15.
The results of the match-ups were a 3 to 1
sovertime loss against Alconbury High

School; a 2 to 0 loss to Croughton High
School and a 4 to 2 overtime loss to London
Central.
“This tournament proved to be a valuable
experience for our 13 players. We are used to
contending with the maddening Icelandic
weather, so playing in near ideal condition^
was a welcome change,” said Nojaim.
He added that the base has tried to get a
proper soccer field of its own for quite some
time.
“If everything works as intended, we stand
a good chance of having a completed
soccer field by the end of the
summer. This should better
our chances in future tour-
naments,” he added.
The soccer team has a
final game Saturday at 11
a.m. in Gardi/Vidur.
Mr. Nojain said he’s trying to get a men’s
NATO team formed. “Soccer is slowly but
surely gaining popularity among base per-
sonnel. Hopefully a full-sized field will spur
additional interest.” For more information

Activities that received attention included
the computer club, gymnastics and intra-
mural sports.
On a related note, Deatherage stated that
parents want continued support for travel
in order for their children to interact and
compete with other schools in activities
such as, band, sports and festivals.
“In years past, questions concerning more
course offerings have arisen. We are in the
process of revamping our^curriculum and
getting closer to the desires of parents and
needs of the students,” she stated.
The schools are hoping for a 100 percent
return on the surveys.
