Clifton Doswell, Training Chief for the Marine Corps Security Force Company Keflavfk, portrays the image of a U. S. Marine. No doubt, his military bearing was a main factor in his selection as the Iceland Defense Force Senior Military Member of the Quarter (MMoQ). Besides impressing MMoQ board members with his military professionalism, Doswell also has an impact on fellow Marines in his company. “He’s one of the best examples of a Marine,” said LCpl. Chris Schutte. “We junior Marines look up to him.” Although Dowell’s example of leadership and his pro- fessional military appearance are easily recognized by those who work with him, he does not try to draw attention to himself from selfish motivation. “Don’t try to impress people to get promoted, but Name: Clifton Doswell Age: 32 Family: Wife Nina, daughters Elizabeth and Nicki Home: Hampton, Va. Michael Sumpter, the final two minutes of the infa- mous “interview” probably made the differ- ence in his selection as the Iceland Defense Force Military Member of the Quarter. Since Sumpter is actively in- volved in his church and eager to live out his Christian faith, it came naturally for him to employ a bib- lical principle. “I related to the board members that nobody is guaranteed a second chance in life. On the other hand, that person who is always allowed to slide by will only get worse with out needed correction. In both cases, the senior enlisted person could have had a positive impact on the individual’s career. Sumpter said he plans to retire from the Air Force and eventually become a teacher since he loves being around and working with children. Whether in the Air Force or work- ing with children, Sumpter wants to take advantage of every opportunity that comes his way to positively influence the lives of others. This is the second time in her four-and-a-half years of military duty Gehling has attained such status. One of the qualities that sets Gehling apart is her willingness to volunteer. “I’d be bored silly if I didn’t do other things outside my work... Apathy in general is very strong up here, but I try to live my life like I’m not going to be here in let’s say a month. So, I do as much as I can now.” October 29,1993 5
