After losing 3-0 to Sandgerdi #2, the soc-
cer players for A. T. Mahan High School
were strangely cheerful. They were still rel-
ishing their victory from the night before
against Vogar #2.
During their first game of the tournament,
the Mahan Gold team ended in a tie with
Vogar. Both teams failed to make a goal. This
called for a shoot out to determine the winner.
“This guy here,” said player Brendon
Gmyrick pointing to goalie Kris Johnson,
“made three awesome saves during the shoot
oat and was probably the biggest reason be-
hind our win.”
Mahan player, Cody Kraatz, made the shot
that won the game for the Vikings. The win
was the first time an A. T. Mahan varsity
soccer team ever beat an Icelandic team.
Coach David Nojaim pointed out that the
team did exceptionally well in its other games
only giving up three goals to the tournament
champs who beat other teams by as much as
eight to 12 goals.
Four-wheelers take their off-roading exhibition inside

The three story high doors of Hangar 885
were open just enough to reveal the trucks
that occupied spaces normally filled by air-
craft. The highly polished trucks glistened
under the hangar lights as owners watched
the judges crawl in, over and under each
vehicle. That was the scene as the Rocky
Road Four Wheelers held the first ever truck
show on the Naval Air Station.
The event was divided into five categories:
Chevy, Ford, Chrysler/Jeep, Foreign Made
and Under Construction. The overall winner
in each category was awarded prizes from the

more than $500 worth of donated items from
several stateside corporations and two Ice-
landic truck shops.
The independent judges appraised each
truck on everything from paint and original-
ity to safety features and presentation. Each
area received a score from one to ten with the
final scores being added up on each truck to
determine the winner of each category.
“We expect next year’s show to be bigger
and better,” said Mark Bancroft, Rocky Road
Four Wheelers President. According to
Bancroft, the club already has several new
companies lined up (as well as this years
contributors) to help in next year’s show.
“We plan to make the show an annual
event to share something a little different and
exciting with base members.
Bancroft concluded by saying next year’s
Rocky Road Four Wheelers truck show will
be held in mid-June to coincide with the
Summer Carnival and the wanner weather of
summer.
