Christmas Shopping
in Reykjavík
Kirsuberjatred is a gallery run by 12
women in the heart of the city. With dif-
ferent backgrounds and an individual
approach to materials and fields of
interest they approach the subject in
their own way joining together in dis-
playing their outcomes. Whether it be
a single item or a series of objects, the
focus is on the magic of reflection and
the curiosity behind looking, viewing
and experiencing what is seen.
A beautiful and unique vintage store
where every item is carefully handpicked,
wether looking for some outstanding
party pieces or a vintage designer wear,
this is the place to visit.

Located on the main shopping street
at Laugavegur 59, Herrafataverzlun
Kormáks & Skjaldar is a unique mens-
wear shop that offers a great variety of
clothing and accessories. In addition
to brands such as Barbour, Filson, Ben
Sherman, Loake Shoemakers & Hackett
of London, they have an in-house
brand that offers suits, shirts and more.
The shop has a feel good decorative
atmosphere and a staff that treats each
person in a personal and gentle manner.

On both sides of the street Skólavörðu-
stígur, number 7 and 16, are two charm-
ing stores that give you a true taste of
Icelandic design. The stores are inspired
by Icelandic history and the strong
relationship between Icelanders and
the unique Icelandic wool that has kept
the nation warm through the centuries.
Featuring clothing labels such as their
own line Geysir, Farmer's Market, Vík
Prjónsdóttir and imported labels that go
well with the Icelandic design. The Geysir
stores are a must visit.

Reykjavík, it is filled with a great variety
of tasteful ornaments and all the other
stuff to get each and all into the true

Icelandic design, handicraft and souvenirs
since 1940. A Lopapeysa is a wool sweater
with a diamond pattern, the kind that
almost every Icelander owns. The pattern
itself isn´t that old. It was first used in the
50´s, but today a sweater can hardly be
called a proper Lopapeysa without the
proper wool pattern. You will find classic
icelandic wool blankets, the original Lopap-
eysa along with a wide selection of gifts at
Rammagerðin store.

O Come All Ye Tasteful
BY REBECCA CONWAY
The scene is familiar: fire crackling, Christ-
mas music humming, Aunt Millie peeling
wrapping paper off a garden gnome with an
unnaturally coquettish expression. This year,
why not put an end to this depressing Christ-
mas tradition with UNICEF’s Inspired Gifts
and donate supplies to a child in need in the
name of a family member, friend or Secret
Santee?
The gifts are incredibly simple to buy:
just go to www.sannargjafir.is (“True
Gifts”), pick a gift from the website, and
personalise a gift card. UNICEF will then
send the supplies to a child in need and a gift
card to the friend or family member in whose
name you gave the donation. There is plenty
of stuff to choose from , with anything from
winter jackets to water pumps, vaccinations
to peanut butter bars.
UNICEF provides aid to over 196 coun-
tries and territories, so your gift, whatever it
is, will surely go to children that need it. The
gift of a blanket, for example, can keep five
infants warm, while school supplies can help
over forty children continue their studies.
Shake up the holiday season this year; it’s
not that small statues, slippers and station-
ary don’t make for good gifts, but blankets,
vaccinations and school supplies for someone
who actually needs them will have a greater
effect.
