I don't know why we can't have nice
things—us, the human race, that is.
We just end up destroying good ideas.
We turned communism into a mass-
murdering nightmare and capitalism
into a global financial mess where the
downtrodden end up paying the debts
of the billionaires, or—even worse—
paying for the complete reconstruction
of the exact same system so we can re-
peat the whole thing over again.
Now we have, for some reason,
turned social media into a repressive
alternative reality where moral panic
hits you at least weekly. And the scan-
dals get smaller and smaller every day.
Social media is also changing
how we interact on the internet. We
are careful. We are even a little ap-
prehensive about the status we are
writing, or the comment we are leav-
ing, because there is a possible moral
panic—which is basically one form of
public shaming—at the other end of
the Enter button.
And the strangest paradox of them
all is that research indicates that the
more we are connected, the lonelier we
get. So put the phone down. Read the
Reykjavík Grapevine. Travel. Love and
have fun. Because that's how you con-
nect. Through unfiltered reality.

INTRO
WTF, Winter?
SO, IT TURNS OUT we got some
real winter after all. On February 26,
the weather gods decided to dump
a record-breaking 51cm of snow on
Reykjavík, burying the city’s cars,
rooftops, streets and basically every-
thing under a thigh-deep blanket of
the white stuff.
But life in Reykjavík quietly car-
ried on. Out on Grandi, a new art
museum, the Marshall House, is ap-
proaching completion. You can read
about it on page 27, and hear the story
of Kling & Bang—one of the galleries
who’ll fill the space—on page 22.
Storms like this perhaps explain
Iceland’s long relationship with wool
and knitting (p. 16), and could explain
the country’s love affair with beer (p.
48), reading (p. 47), and partying like
it’s 2017 (Sónar Reykjavík, p. 38).
Now the snow is melting, so you’ve
no excuse to hide indoors. From page

AUÐUR has published
a performance video
of his entire next al-
bum, ‘Alone’, in which
he mimes along to the
LP and dances like no
one’s watching in an
empty room. It’s slick,
minimal, lovelorn,
feather-lite pop
music for the internet

JóiPé X KRÓLI - Spreða
JóiPé and Króli are
young (16 and 17
respectively) but
their sound is pure
old-school—so old-
school that’s it’s hard
to believe they were
just eggs when Tupac
died. That said, they
work the old school
vibe and are only ones
in the Icelandic rap
scene really doing so

aYia - Ruins
aYia have made a
considerable splash
in the Icelandic music
scene since they
first appeared in
mid-2016. Their debut
single, “Water Plant,”
spread… like a water
plant; the follow-up,
“Ruins,” shows a more
propulsive, rhythmic
side. 2017 might just
be their year. JR
Felix Leifur - Classy
Young Felix Leifur’s
sophomore release on
Dirt Crew Recordings,
the ‘In General’ EP,
is a wonky, wob-
bly, sleazy house
offering. The second
track, “Classy,” sets
shuffle to maximum
and ambles woozily
towards the dance
