TRANSLATION
TRANSLATIONS is a work in progress. It
is an exchange between Else Ploug
Isaksen and Iben West inspired by
their residency in Iceland. The ex-
change is like a stream of thoughts,
a poetic flow. It has its own logic.

SÍM Artists in Residency Exhibition
Guest artists at the SÍM Residency at
Seljavegur and Korpúlfsstaðir pres-
ent what they have been working on
for the past month during their stay
in Iceland.

“MORPHOGENESIS”
Louise le Roux presents experi-
mental works in fluid acrylics. The
exhibition is a result of explorations
of how colours and mediums react
with each other to create form. The
interplay of pigment density and
dispersion medium sets the stage
for the experiment.

Woody’s work leads the viewer
through a dreamlike journey fo-
cused on landscapes and historical
paintings.

Shoplifter
Hrafnhildur Árnadóttir, aka Shoplifter,
is a renowned Icelandic designer
and artist whose colourful, large
scale installations are eye-catching
and textural. She uses brightly
coloured hair fibres to create vivid,
dizzying landscapes, or “hairscapes”.

Treasures of a Nation
This new long-term exhibit presents
a selected number of works from
1884 to 1911 of mostly Danish and
Scandinavian artists.

EINAR JÓNSSON MUSEUM
Permanent Exhibition
The museum contains close to
300 artworks including a beautiful
garden with 26 bronze casts of the
artist’s sculptures.

son
Haraldur presents 19 paintings in-
spired by politics and the addiction
to power.

God, I Feel So Bad / Woman In E
Ragnar Kjartansson’s retrospective
features four pianists and four op-
era singers playing simultaneously.
Now a new performance begins: a
presentation in which a glamorously
staged female guitarist endlessly
strums the chord e-minor.

MELANKÓLÍA
Laufey Elíasdóttir’s photographs
are extremely personal. Raw, strik-
ing, and sorrowful—the exhibit is
based on a poem by Elísabet Kristín
Jökulsdóttir.

THE CITY BEING explores various
aspects of our modern cities, with
contemporary Reykjavik as the main

Dýragarður - Zoo
Úlfur Karlsson has a cartoonish style
in this exhibit hosted by the Hlem-
mur Square Hostel/Bar. Expect lots
of colour and confusion.

Metamorphosis
In Metamorphosis, Sigurgeir Sigur-
jónsson compares the city to the
built-up countryside to the wild wil-
derness. From torn-down buildings
in Reykjavík to abandoned farms,
the photos are brutal, sometimes
violent, but beautiful.

GERÐASAFN KÓPAVOGUR ART MUSEUM
The In, With and Between Us
This exhibit presents a conversation
around non-linear readings of place
and time, language and translation.
It is a collaboration between a num-
ber of international MFA students
from the SVA school in New York.

Far Away Right Here
Photographer Martin Cox spent a
month at the Fjuk Art Center last
year. Here he presents his work from
there, inspired by the landscape and
history of Húsavík.

Born In The Slaughterhouse
Nine artists worked with various me-
dia to create an exhibit linked by the
idea of basic needs. Carcasses will
hang from hooks and snapshots will
capture prison cells, all to create a
playful twist on human violence.

Hverfing / Shapeshifting
This exhibit brings together re-
nowned artists from Iceland and the
United States to build site-specific
installations for the former herring
oil factory that hosts the museum.

HDE YOUR FIRES
This exhibit of the organic form, jux-
taposed by characteristic Icelandic
landscapes. Each photo is designed
to transpose a flickering atmo-
sphere, somewhere between dream
and tangibility as dark figures haunt
nature.

Linda Steinþórsdóttir
Linda’s artwork is abstract and
minimalist, all bringing you to white
glaciers, black sands, barren nature,

The exhibition spans the whole
career of Louisa Matthíasdóttir, who

Kjarval – Key Works
Kjarvalsstaðir was actually named
after the artist Jóhannes Sveinsson
Kjarval. This exhibit asks: Does the
value lie in natural beauty for its
own sake, in the hidden life within it,
in our potential for utilisation, or in
the transience?

In And Out The Window
Nina Zurier presents a black and
white photography and video ex-
hibit focusing on presenting normal
objects in an eerie light.

Eggert Pétursson
Pétursson’s exhibit was inspired by
the mountain Bjarnarfell, where he
found ravines, vegetation and gul-
lies that excited him. “Each of these
ravines had their own character.” He
says, “I have really dissolved every-
thing, and I am not always certain
whether I am painting a stone, wa-
ter, the flowers or the light. The mere
size of the works should allow the
viewer to walk into the work, even to
be enveloped by it. What is pre-
sented is my mapping of a certain
period and experience – a hike.”

Dodda Maggý
Lingering on the verge of cinema,
video art, and music composition,
Dodda Maggý employs many mediums
with a cross-disciplinary approach.
Each piece together forms a complex
organism.

Theatre Artists
make jokes and
strut catwalks of
various outfits,
from crinolines
and hoop skirts
through flimsy
Charleston dress-
es, over fluffy
tulle dresses of
the fifties, the
little black dress
to hippie times
as well as the
legendary Hag-
kaups-sloppur, a
classic Icelandic
housewife’s gown
from the sixties.
The show is at
17:00 and 20:00
on the 3rd and
20:00 on the 5th.
