Take Your Time
Sequences Arts Festival
October 6-15, Various Venues
Set your alarm for
Sequences. This
ten-day event
aims to ‘produce
and present pro-
gressive visual
art with special
focus on time-
based mediums,
such as perfor-
mance, sonic
works, video and
public interven-
tions.’ Its latest
incarnation,
“Sequences VIII:
Elastic Hours,” fo-
cuses on how the
term “real time”
can be applied to
the experience
of making art,
exploring how
artists can use
time itself as a
raw material. With
Icelandic and
international art-
ists, Sequences
VIII looks beyond
the clocks and
investigates al-
ternative systems
for measuring
time—perhaps
especially perti-
nent to Iceland-
ers due to the
country’s strange
and unusual day-
light hours; the
most traditional
timekeeper of all.
