58 The Reykjavík Grapevine Issue 18 — 2017 To Love Is To Hope Text: Alice Demurtas Photos: Art Bicnick It's not easy to free yourself from the constraints of modern life. Singer-songwriter and troubadour Jélila Bouraoui is trying to learn just that. Travelling the world with the sole company of her in- struments, her goal is to spread a positive message of love and hope everywhere she goes. Jélila came to Iceland only for a couple of weeks, but she was in- stantly mesmerised. She saw in the country a potential for life in com- munion with nature. Her ultimate hope is that, through the medium of her music, people can reflect upon their true nature and potential to live a more fulfilling life and enjoy every minute of its singular beauty. LIFE IN PICTURES Breakfast is never before ten! Grab a quick bite... Jélila relies on the kindess of strangers who've offered her a place to stay. First things first: meditating cleans body and soul before the day can begin. ...and she's out the door, ready for a new day full of surprises Dreaming of new melodies in the light of day.
