Digestibility
The in vitro method gives a good estimate of digestibility but has a relative high variation.
This means that more than one analysis per sample is needed for a good estimate. In 1996 all
samples from one of the two blocks were analyzed twice while the other block was analyzed
once. The standard deviation of repeated analyses of the same samples was 1.7 percentage
units and between samples 1.87. The standard deviation between samples in 1997 was 1.81.
Kollafjoróur. Table 27 shows the digestibility of the grass varieties on different harvest dates
in 1996 and 1997. On May 29 there was no yield at all of Poapratensis and therefore an extra
harvest was taken on July 24.
