The space- man flew an upgraded version of the historic vehicle in Hamilton, Ontario, on Friday, February 6, achieving a speed of forty miles per hour and a top altitude of al- most four meters. The Silver Dart first flew on February 23, 1909, in Baddeck Bay, Cape Breton, with designer J.A.D. McCurdy in the pilot’s seat. Tryggvason’s Hamilton test flight was in preparation for a recreation of this historic event at the original location on the same late February day. “It was a bit shaky,” Tryg- gvason reported after returning to earth. However, he considered the test flight a complete success. Photo courtesy Parks canada The original Silver Dart. Events Genealogy Language Classes Literature Movies Music Þorrablóts
