but not a great deal. This plant formation goes up to 200
m above sea level and is continually increasing. This indi-
cates that all this angelica growth was formed as typical
fulmar colony angelica clusters in the beginning.

2. In the Puffin colony the soil is deep and always
damp and fine in texture. There are 1—2 puffin holes
in every square metre. The whole formation has a blue-
green tinge, mainly caused by Festuca rubra L. Osten-
feld mentions this tinge in the bird colony in the
Faroe Islands, and in his doctor’s thesis (Ostenfeld,
1906), he assigns the cause to Festuca rubra, but he
speaks of this bird colony as being not on the tops of the
islands nor on the sides of the cliffs, but rather in the bo
called ”Ur“, i-e. boulder-strewn ground below the cliffs;
