BLUE ICELAND

craft work from Icelandic artist Helga
Jóhannesdóttir.
Using an assortment of copper wire, metals,
and glass with a clay foundation,
Jóhannesdóttir has created aesthetically ele-
gant yet practical objects, such as bowls, can-
dle holders and vases for the home, and each is
adorned with Jóhannesdóttir’s signature
colour: a deep aqua blue.
“Blue hues are very strong in Iceland,” says
Jóhannesdóttir. “I never realised how prevalent
they were until I lived abroad and then came
back. That’s when I noticed that blue was every-
where – the mountains, the sea.”
