Company Notes (I C E L A N D A I R Icelandair’s staff and their families had a rip-roaring time at the Nauthólsvík geot- hermal beach recently. Children of all ages were entertained by bands, clowns and an incredible parachute show. Afterwards, Icelandair executives and man- agers hosted a barbecue, flipping burgers beneath the warm evening sun. Icelandair and STAFF, Icelandair’s staff association, joined hands for this family fun day, maintaining the great team spirit that characterises Icelandair’s employees. Leaving Icelandair after a combined total of 140 years, Davíd Vilhelmsson, Regional Manager EasternEurope, Yves Bertino, Regional Manager Belgium & Netherlands, Mike Skillman, Supervisor Reservation and Ticketing in France, and Harald Rytz, Manager of Administration in Scandinavia, received high praise at their farewell gathering from Sigurdur Helgason, Icelandair’s President and CEO, and Steinn Logi Björnsson, SVP Sales and Marketing. During the ceremony, the men were honoured for their outstanding commitment and hard work, main- taining the marketing strength of Icelandair’s offices abroad. For years they have been a part of the Icelandair marketing and sales team, marketing Iceland as a travel destination to the rest of the world. Recently, the prestigious Swedish travel magazine Alt om RESOR listed Iceland as the eighth greatest tourist destination in the world.The editors assembled a large panel of experts to vote on their favourite destinations and the results were clear: New York was voted the best travel destination in the World, and Iceland came in incredibly at eighth place. Far behind Iceland were places such as Mallorca,Venice, Bali, Bangkok – and just below Iceland, in the tenth spot, came the French Riviera! The ten best travel destinations in the world according to Alt om RESOR: 1. New York 2. Paris 3. London 4. Barcelona 5. Rome 6. Stockholm 7. Florence 8. Iceland 9. Istanbul 10.The French Riviera Thousands of music fans along with hundreds of music journalists gathered in Iceland last October (16-19) for the fourth annual IcelandAirwaves music festival, held in Reykjavík, which featured some of the world’s top musical talent, such as Fat Boy Slim and The Hives, as well as Iceland’s rising stars.
