rue Vielle de Temple throng by night and
in the daytime rue des Rosiers bustles
with Jewish merchants, kosher delis and
falafel stands. Keep walking through the
Marais down to famous Beaubourg – The
Pompidou Centre, a huge art complex
envisioned by the former president and
built in the 1970’s . Interesting exhibitions
are always on offer, and one to watch out
for this winter is “M’as tu vue” by French
artist Sophie Calle. Traverse the soulless
Les Halles shopping structure and investi-
gate rue Étienne Marcel which has become
one of the city’s trendiest shopping streets.
Hip labels such as Joseph, Paul and Joe,
Barbara Bui and retro streetwear store
Kiliwatch are some of the shops to look out
for. For an after-shopping drink, sit down at
the 70’s style Café Etienne Marcel with its
huge white plastic armchairs and New York
rock pouring out of the speakers. As the
sun sets, head back towards the river and
take a romantic stroll along the quai, for the
sights, smells and feel of the real Paris.
EATING OUT
Chez Denise
This typical, rather unrefined French res-
taurant stays open all night and has hefty
servings of traditional nosh such as lamb’s
brains in olive oil, pig’s foot and the larg-
est entrecote you’ve ever set your eyes
on. Wash it down with copious amounts of
house Brouilly and a scoop of apple sorbet
drowned in calvados. Great place to eat
before or after clubbing.
L ‘Epi Dupin
If you go to one restaurant in Paris, this is
my recommendation. A tiny unobtrusive
restaurant just opposite the Bon Marché, it
features the talents of chef Francois Pasteau
who takes classic French cuisine to new
heights. There’s just one fixed price three
course menu, and I promise that each mouth-
ful will have you exclaiming “This man is a
true artist.” You need to book far ahead, and
even if you do, be prepared to queue.

Noura
I can’t go to Paris without paying a visit to this
award winning Lebanese restaurant. Friendly
waiters, bright surroundings and all those
Lebanese staples: hoummos, aubergine dip,
tabbouleh, fatoush, kebbeh and melt in your
mouth tender kebabs. The lunch-time kebab
special puts a tiny bit of each on your plate, a
perfect stomach-filler.
