➔ Icelandair has formed a new partnership with LazyTown, the hugely successful children’s show. The kick-off for the partnership was a big Family Festival that attracted 15,000 visitors. Sportacus, the main character from the TV show, visited the festival and got the kids jumping up and down and having fun while at the same time educat- ing them about the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Various artists came and entertained visitors, who had a blast. The enormous Mountain of Fruit was well received and was eaten to the ground by the end of the day. Icelandair is very pleased with this partnership and will use LazyTown’s concept of fun and healthy living in its services for its youngest travelers. It opens up many new ideas for serving parents and families even better by making it easier to travel with chil- dren. Among the new family-oriented services are special children’s fares, intended to lower the total travel cost for families, and a special information website where children can learn about interesting places to visit at Icelandair’s various destinations. Service onboard will also be increased with a new healthy inflight menu for children, a la LazyTown. At the beginning of 2006, Icelandair will also add the LazyTown television and radio shows to its aircrafts’ in-flight entertainment systems. LazyTown has managed to successfully introduce its philosophy of healthier living to children all around the world with its children’s television pro- gram. The program has received the Nordic Health Award for its outstanding message. Icelandair is proud to be working with the four girls and to be taking part in their adventure by flying them between Iceland and London. Atomic Kitten manager Martin O’Shea will manage Nylon’s UK debut. The Kittens are the second most successful girl band ever to release in Britain. (The Spice Girls are at the top.) “In March, Nylon will launch their promotional tour throughout the UK and Scotland, and hopefully by then we will already have released the first single in the UK. We also plan to release an album by next fall,” says O’Shea. “I very much look forward to this time, and after my visits to Iceland I’m very excited to be introducing the Nylon group to the UK.” “We can’t wait to get to the UK, we have abso- lutely fallen in love with London and aim to rent an apartment very close to an H&M store,” says Alma Gudmundsdóttir, one of Nylon’s singers, laughing. “It is great to work with the people at Icelandair. They have been very active in helping Icelandic musicians promote themselves abroad, both through the Iceland Airwaves music festival and also their travel fund, from which musicians can apply for grants to hold concerts abroad.” Nylon’s first and second albums both went straight to the top of Iceland’s music charts. In the mere 18 months since their debut, the girls have had their own TV show, which ran for a year, have released two albums, one DVD, and a best-selling book about the band. Nylon has recorded many songs in Icelandic and 17 in English. 71 London Calling for Nylon 067 ATL106 Icelandair.indd 71 19.12.2005 10:57:47
