Early spring is the best time to hike and ski Öræfajökull, southeast Iceland.
Iceland’s highest peak at 2,119m (6.952 ft), Öræfajökull is an ice-covered,
three-peaked volcano. The largest of its four recorded eruptions – the great-
est in the history of Iceland – was in 1362. The last was in 1726, but the
volcano is only sleeping. Best to have your skis ready. Just in case. PS
