SKYPE: THE NEXT GENERATION
Skype CEO Niklas Zennstrom recently announced that Skype, the free computer-to-computer
telephony service that changed the way the Y generation calls long distance, will be creating an
application to be integrated on mobile computer platforms. Skype is already selectly mobile – it’s
available on small units like the Pocket PC – and there are devices out there that divert Skype
computer calls to your mobile (check out the gadgets at www.actiontec.com). What kind of
resistance mobile telecommunications companies – who make a lot of money off long-distance
mobile calls – put up is yet to be seen. www.skype.com
GREEN CARS
It might look like a giant tissue box, but Toyota’s
Fine-T fuel cell hybrid, which made its debut at the
2006 North American International Auto Show, comes
darn close to having zero effect on the environment.
This low emission hybrid allows for a dramatic
reduction in the amount of precious metals used.
Plus, carbon-neutral materials are featured in the car’s
interior. Toyota recently announced that it plans to
offer gas-electric hybrids for all its models in an effort
to reach its target of 1 million hybrids sold by 2012,
roughly 10 percent of total annual new vehicle sales.
With gasoline approaching $3 a gallon, perhaps Mr.
Hummer will go the way of the brontosaurus.
