➔ Icelandair Group’s Midnight Golf Tournament was held on 15 June at the Reykjavík Golf Club in Grafarholt. The tournament was fully booked, with around 130 players competing on this beautiful evening. The game arrangement was Texas Scramble, where two players play as a team and the better ball is chosen. Those invited to this tournament are Icelandair Group’s subsidiaries’ biggest clients. The players came to the golf course around 5pm. People registered for the tournament, were given scorecards and met their teammate. People were also given tee-presents from Icelandair, Air Iceland, IGS and Saga Boutique. Afterwards, former Icelandic golf champion Thorsteinn Hallgrímsson explained the tournament arrangement and rules to the players, who were all ears while enjoying the delicious catering from IGS. At 6pm the tournament started, with the players teeing off at the Reykjavík Golf Club. IGS had three catering tents on the golf course where Icelandair employees and associ- ates served refreshments while the players gave it their best. On the 6th course a cart from Icelandair Cargo had been placed about 60 meters from the tee. The point was that the competitors received a range ball and those who hit the cart would receive a trip for two to Orlando as a prize. This was a huge success among contestants and three players hit the cart this time around! After the tournament ended around midnight, everyone settled in the clubhouse to watch the prize ceremony and enjoy each other’s company over some good food and wine. The Björn Thoroddsen Trio played some nice tunes for the crowd as this wonderful day came to an end. Once again Icelandair Group’s Midnight Golf Tournament was a hit. We have received a series of e-mails from clients complimenting us on this successful and enjoyable event. The success of this tournament is an important key to strengthening the relationship between Icelandair Group, its subsidiaries and their most important clients. Icelandair Group’s Midnight Golf Tournament Loftleidir Icelandic, the charter and ACMI-marketing subsidiary of the Icelandair Group, has bought a majority of the shares in the Latvian charter operator LatCharter Airlines and has committed to acquiring the remaining shares in the future. The acquisition comes as a result of the ongoing cooperation between the two companies announced earlier this year, and is part of Loftleidir Icelandic’s strategy to strengthen its posi- tion in the Baltic and CIS region as well as adding the Airbus family to its worldwide ACMI product line. When asked about the acquisition, Sigthór Einarsson, managing director of Loftleidir Icelandic, said, “LatCharter Airlines has built up a solid and positive reputation in the Baltic region and has close relations to the local charter market. The company has gained extensive knowledge of the CIS market, which we will undoubtedly benefit from in the near future, opening the window for our current product line.” The LatCharter operation will complement Loftleidir Icelandic’s current product line, which operates under the Icelandair AOC, a JAA approved airline with an AOC in compliance with JAR OPS 1. Loftleidir Icelandic currently wet leases four Boeing 757-200 and two Boeing 767-300 aircraft to customers in South and North America, Europe and the Middle East. Its past and cur- rent wet-lease customers include airlines like TUI Group, British Midland, Blueline, NEOS, LOT and White, and tour operators like Starquest Expeditions in the USA, Krone Rejser of Denmark, CT2 of the UK and GWV in the USA. The Icelandair Group family festival took place on Friday 19 August. With a star-studded line-up of local talent, it was Icelandair Group CEO Jón Karl Ólafsson who opened the festivities. With performances by the Icelandic Idol winner, Snorri Snorrason, LazyTown star Stephanie, the Cabin Crew Choir and others, fun was had by all. Some of the Icelandair top brass took on new roles as hot dog servers. The Icelandair staff members and their families enjoyed the beautiful weather and all the entertainment on offer.
