Dear Passenger, Last month, on behalf of the staff of Icelandair, I had the honor of accepting a new award from the government of Iceland, celebrating outstanding achievement in the trans- portation industry. In the middle of our busy high season it was nice to be reminded of the value of our work. We know, of course, that the transport of passengers and freight creates value for individuals and society as a whole. Through its operations, an airline like Icelandair also con- tributes to the economic and social welfare of the countries in which it is based. For the past 70 years, Icelandair Group has extensively influenced Icelandic society and, through its operations, has played a key role in shaping modern Iceland. With a network providing Icelanders with regular direct flights to over 20 major cities in Europe and North America, our company has provided this small island nation with transport services and communication opportunities that are second to none. At the same time, we have succeeded in building up tourism as a vital part of the Icelandic economy. Icelandair continues to be a solid supporter and sponsor of various organizations and events in Iceland and abroad. One such is the Iceland Airwaves music festival, which was launched to showcase Icelandic musical talent for the benefit of foreign record companies. Since then, Iceland Airwaves has flourished and grown and is now an integral part of the cultural scene in Reykjavík, with over 150 artists performing at various downtown venues each October. Another initiative, and one we are especially proud of, is the Special Children Travel Fund, which we established along with you, our passengers. This year the fund will be enabling 70 children suffering from long-term illnesses or other difficult life circumstances to take the “trip of a life- time” along with their families. So, all things considered, we are honored to have the Icelandic government recognize our positive efforts. Most of all, though, we are proud that you have chosen to fly with us. And the only way for us to live up to that proud tradition is by making sure you choose Icelandair again. Have a great trip, Jón Karl Ólafsson CEO, Icelandair Head Office, Advertising: Heimur Ltd.
