The Reykjavík experience can be summed up in two
words: Pure Energy!
Iceland has the enviable distinction of having an
abundance of renewable indigenous energy
resources. Reykjavík’s plentiful sources of green, geot-
hermal energy ensure clean air and unpolluted
water, giving both Reykjavík’s inhabitants and guests
a treasured sense of wellness and contentment. The
geothermal baths in Reykjavík are not to be missed by
anyone wanting to recharge the batteries. One of the
best ways to meet the people of Reykjavík is to visit
one of the seven baths, as going to the thermal
pools is very much a way of life for Icelanders.
Another gem is a geothermal beach with warm
water in Nauthólsvík – only 15 minutes walk from the
city centre.
The cultural scene in Reykjavík is renowned for its
vibrant and energetic character. Reykjavik’s many
musicians, young artists, designers and entrepreneurs
give the city a true sense of living creativity. The
Reykjavík Art Museum, the Reykjavík Museum of
Photographs, City Archives and Library (jointly housed
in Grófarhús on Tryggvagata), the Culture House,
with its collection of treasured manuscripts, or the
National Museum are all good choices if you want to
spend a day enjoying the city’s culture. To get a bit
closer to our roots, enjoy a day by the seaside and
stroll around the old harbour, or travel back in time at
the Reykjavík Municipal Museum at Árbær.
Reykjavík’s city centre is a friendly and colourful net-
work of small streets with historic buildings, and a
good selection of boutiques, cafés and quality restau-
rants serving attractive dishes made of the purest
ingredients. All year round it is the venue for celebra-
tions and festivals, and the good news for those look-
ing for a spot of unbridled fun and an unforgettable
night out – the famous Reykjavík nightlife certainly
lives up to its reputation.
The energy surrounding the famed Reykjavík nightlife
also exists during the day. Reykjavík University is one
institution harnessing this creative energy, graduating
innovative and entrepreneurial diplomates who are
helping to reshape the business world, ensuring that
there will be more companies such as Reykjavík
Resources, which connects outside investors and busi-
nesses to the local business community.
So enjoy your trip to Reykjavík. Stay as long as you
