The tours, conducted in English, last just over an hour and take in various downtown Reykjavík sites in relation to how and when they have been mentioned in Icelandic literature. The guides are a literary critic and an actor. The walks are free of charge and go at an easy pace that suits everyone. The tour leaves from the main library every Thursday in July and August at 17:00. You can also visit literature.is, the library’s website about contemporary Icelandic authors. For those who enjoy the literary part but not the walking, the Reykjavík City Library has several branches around the city where you can read international journals, newspapers and magazines as well as English translations of classic Icelandic novels and sagas. The main branch on Tryggvagata also has wireless facilities, or you can pay a small fee to have Internet access on the library’s own computers.
