ICELAND REVIEW 55 recruit the talented Icelandic national team player, who knows London well after having trained for a few years in Reading’s camp on the outskirts of London. “I thought things over very carefully and took my time to decide. I felt good while playing for Swansea, under the management of Brendan Rodgers, and I am very grateful to him for everything that he did for me. But you have to make this decision yourself and I felt that everything looked very good at Tottenham. The team has a great group of players and they have been doing really well in recent years. I am very much look- ing forward to being a part of this fine team that I have always found very fun to watch,” said Gylfi, who scored Swansea’s goal when they lost 3:1 against Tottenham last season, on Tottenham’s home ground, White Hart Lane. Aren’t you afraid of dealing with the competi- tion for a spot on the team? “It doesn’t matter where you are when you are in a league like the English Premier League. There is extreme competition for a spot on the team at all clubs. I am not afraid of added competition and I think it will just motivate me to improve myself.” “he understands the game. he’s good with both feet. he's not a physical player or the best tackler, but he is very fit—i've met few such skillful players who can run so much for 90 minutes. you shouldn't underestimate him when it comes to the defensive part of the game.” lars lagerbäck, iceland’s manager P H O TO : M B L / E R N IR E y Jó LF S S O N
