The young Icelandic fashion design company Farmers Market has raised a few eye-
brows lately in the international design world for its high-quality knitwear and con-
cept. Established in 2005 by an Icelandic couple—a designer and a musician—Farmers
Market draws its design inspiration from the Icelandic heritage where, for centuries,
man and animals have cohabited in harmony challenged by harsh nature. Its style has

The newest addition to the Icelandair hotel chain, Reykjavík Marina, is, as its
name suggests, centrally located at the old Reykjavík harbor. The four-story
renovated building, unveiled in the spring of 2012, features bright and funky
maritime-inspired rooms and luxury suites with high ceilings and great views.
Top floor rooms come with private balconies that look out over the harbor,
downtown Reykjavík, and Esja, the mountain across the bay. Converted from
a warehouse space, the bar and 24-hour canteen called the Slipp Café has be-
come the place for an energizing breakfast, midday feast, or an evening with
friends. The in-house mini theatre screens a selection of Icelandic films with
English subtitles.
