10 ICELAND REVIEW sound oF Music Once again Iceland Airwaves showcases the latest and the greatest in the international music scene, making for Reykjavík’s best party of the year. This year’s highlights include Iceland’s own Emilíana Torrini, Ásgeir, Hjaltalín and Moses Hightower, German legends Kraftwerk, and of course U.S. native John Grant, featured in this issue. October 30-November 3, 2013. ÁA PiPing Hot Japanese photographer Gentaro Ishizuka specializes in landscape with pipelines. In 2011 he set his sights on Iceland, photographing pipelines transporting geothermal water to the capital. Pipelines, Reykjavik Museum of Photography September 17- November 5, 2013. ÁA Hottest Hostel in town CNN recently chose KEX Hostel as one of the world’s seven swankiest hostels, describing it as a place where locals and travelers can “hang out, have a beer and experience the awesome quirkiness of Reykjavík.” PS Culture Club Video stArs A new exhibition at the Reykjavík Art Museum recalls the first steps by Icelandic artists in using video as a medium. All the works were first shown in Iceland between 1980 and 1990 and only a few have been exhibited since then. Icelandic Video Art 1975–1990, September 14 2013-January 19, 2014. ÁA
