92 ICELAND REVIEW REYKJAVÍK MEET IN THE MIDDLE Reykjavík is quickly becoming a pop- ular destination for meetings, incen- tives, conferences and events (MICE) in Europe. Situated midway between North America and Europe, a growing number of international companies and organizations are choosing Reykjavík for its convenient location, accommodating facilities, great food, comfortable hotels and thriving culture. Additionally, Ice- landic nature is a draw for its inspiring beauty, energy and diversity which injects creativity into meetings and events. Won- drous waterfalls, vast glaciers, towering volcanoes, and soothing hot springs are all part of the breathtaking landscape. “A destination that fulfills professional re- quirements and provides memorable sto- ries is surely something an event planner is looking for,” says Brynja Laxdal, director of marketing at Meet in Reykjavík. “The wide network of suppliers within the Meet in Reykjavík Convention Bureau offers re- sources and the experience to design un- forgettable events.” CAPTURE THE ENERGY OF ICELAND Reykjavík is home to high-quality facilities. “The trend within the meetings industry is to incorporate wellness,” says Brynja. “Many visitors talk about the special en- ergy they feel during their stay. The val- ue of resting the mind through exposure to nature is well documented as it invig- orates us and refreshes our ability to pay attention. In Iceland you can choose from various meeting facilities that offer stun- ning views that can revive tired minds. The most prominent one is the gorgeous Har- pa Concert Hall and Conference Centre.” Situated close to the harbor, Harpa was designed by Icelandic/Danish architect Ólafur Elíasson, and has become a favorite among design aficionados. While Reykjavík is the capital city, it maintains a small-town friendly charm with a Nordic twist. The city’s inhabitants are known to be creative, contributing to a thriving art and design scene, and there are many local stylish boutiques, galleries and shops for locals and tourists to ex- plore. The city center is easy to navigate by foot and a walk along the harbor, close to Harpa, is postcard perfect. Walking paths are a wonderful way to spend some time with colleagues or potential clients. Additionally, there are numerous hotels offering everything from large to small conference rooms, luxurious suites to minimalist cool accommodation, and the restaurant scene is surprisingly diverse: from seafood restaurants to sushi bars to steakhouses. CONVENTIONS SPECIAL PROMOTION Brynja Laxdal, director of marketing at Meet in Reykjavík. Iceland’s location between North America and Europe, as well as top-notch facilities, makes Reykjavík a winning conference and event destination.
