BERNICE LILYAN JOHANNSON-ANDERSEN is the granddaughter of
pioneers Sigtryggur "Trigvi" Johannson and Sigridur Johannsdottir who home-
steaded in 1889 near Markerville. She a charter member of the Stephan G.
Stephansson Icelandic Society of Markerville and the immediate Past President.
Her maternal grandparents were Fredrik Kjartan Johnson and Gudlin Thorlaug
Illugason. Bernice has a keen interest in the community of Markervile and her
Icelandic roots.
NINNA BJARNASON CAMPBELL received an honourary life member-
ship from the Edmonton Chapter of the Icelandic National League for her out-
standing contribution to the Nordurljos Chapter and the Icelandic community.
She now lives in Winnipeg so that she can be closer to her grandchildren.
NINA LEE COLWILL is a psychologist, a management consultant, and the
author of three books and some hundred articles and book chapters. She is cur-
rently writing her first novel.
JOHN JOHNSON is a retired farmer who still owns land that once was
Stephan G. Stephansson's farm. He is a member of the Icelandic Communities
Association - the group that organizes the 2nd of August celebrations annually in
Mountain, North Dakota. His parents were John Johnson and Gudrun Melsted
Magnuson.
REV. STEFAN JONASSON is a Unitarian minister and member of the board
of directors of The Icelandic Canadian. He presently serves as Coordinator of
Services for Large Congregations with the Unitarian Universalist Association in
Boston, Massachusetts. He also serves as minister of the Unitarian churches in
Arborg and Gimli. He lives in Winnipeg with his wife, Cindy, and daughters,
Brandis and Heather.
SIGURBJORG STEFANSSON was a highly respected teacher. A school in
Gimli bears her name. She was instrumental in establishing the libraries at Gimli,
Riverton and Arborg. She had a great pride in her Icelandic heritage. Delving into
the history led her to translating the letters so that they could be shared.
LILLIAN VILBORG retired after 26 years with the University of Alberta as
Law Librarian and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Law. Lillian has re-located to
Winnipeg, the city of her birth and formative years. She is the editor of Logberg-
Heimskringla.
BETTY JANE WYLIE is a prolific writer and playright. She is a very strong
supporter of her Icelandic roots. Letters to Icelanders, Exploring the Northern
Soul reveals her love for the Nordic spirit. She recently received an honourary
doctorate of letters from the University of Manitoba.
