Baldrun Paetkau, (right) of Sechelt, B.C., and Valerie Larson of Winnipeg
spent an afternoon along the shores of Lake Manitoba in the Siglunes District.
Baldrun's great-grandparents, Anna and Jorundur Eyford, homesteaded here in
the early 1900s.
During the Diphtheria epidemic of 1905, the Eyford's lost four of their
children. Baldrun's grandmother was the eldest surviving child who impressed
upon her children that the gravesite should someday be permanently marked.
In the early 1990s, a cairn was erected in memory of the lost Eyford children.
