Dawn Janine Rothwell is the daugh-
ter of Gordon and Loma Rothwell. Her
grandparents are Dora and Franklin
Sigurdson, and great-grandparents were
Sigfus and Sigurlaug Sigurdson,
Thorsteinn and Palina Gislason.
Dawn Janine Rothwell
Dawn has demonstrated pride in her
Icelandic ancestry by volunteering at
Jón Sigurðsson Chapter IODE lunch-
eons, and working at Folklorama since
1985. She currently acts as Cultural
Chairperson for the Scandinavian Pa-
vilion. Dawn served as Princess of Ice-
Iand duringthe 1988 Folklorama, dcm-
onstrating the traditional art of spin-
ningwool in Icelandic costume. Dawn
is President of the Icelandic Canadian
Frón. Her contribution to the Icelandic
community and excellent academic
record have been recognized by the
SvavaThorsteinson Memorial Scholar-
ship, and the Johanna Gudrun
Skaptason Memorial Scholarship.
Dawn is currently a student on the
Dean’s Honour Roll in the Faculty of
Management at the University of Mani-
toba. After graduation, she intends to

pursue a career in her major area, ac-
counting.

Diane Elizabeth Drawbridge is the
daughterofWilliam and Joanne Morris,
granddaughter of Frank and Johanna
Wilson, great granddaughter of Joseph
and Gudrun Skaptason. She is married
to Stephen Drawbridge.
Diane has her degree in Education
and was Senior Stick of her class in
1988. She was awarded the Freda and
Hjalmar Danielson IODE scholarship
in Drama and English. She is an el-
ementary school teacher. Diane has trav-
elled twice with her grandmother to
Iceland. She has taken the Circle Tour
around the island with a group from
Iceland where she experienced almost
total Icelandic immersion. Her mother
Joanne Morris travelled to Iceland in
1958 with her grandmother Gudrun
Skaptason and she stayed on to attend
the Kvennaskóli (a girls finishing
school) in Akureyi. She has shared
with Diane some of her experiences.
