Jón H. Bergs will deliver

Mr. Bergs was born in Reykjavík, Iceland

Jón H.Bergs studied at Reykjavík College
(Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík) and gradu-
ated from that school with honours in June
1947. He studied law at the University of
Iceland receiving his degree on May 24. 1952.
From September 1954, Mr. Bergs became the assistant to the president
of Sláturfélag Suöurlands, and in 1957, he became the president of the
company, only 29 years of age at the time. He held that position until April
1988, when he retired.
In 1961, Mr. Bergs was elected to the executive of the Icelandic
ConfederationofEmployersandservedaschairman (1971-1978). Hewas
electedto serveontheAgriculturalProductionBoard (1968-1985); onthe
Agricultural Pricing Committee (1985-1988); served on the Consulting
Committee of EFTA (1970-1978) and on the Executive Committee of the
Icelandic Management Association from 1961. Mr. Bergs has served on
the board of trustees of many and various organizations which are too
many to enumerate here, and he has also served on the board of directors
ofvarious companies. He was chairman of the board of Kaupvangur Co.
(1968-1988), on the board of The Icelandic Steamship Company since
1981, on the board of The Icelandic Market Co. at the Keflavík Airport
and on the board of several other companies. Mr. Bergs has been
appointed to serve on various public committees dealing with pension
funds and vacation rights, etc.
In 1975, Mr. Bergs was appointed Honourary Consul General of
Canadain Iceland. Hisappointmentbecameeffectiveonjune 1,1975 and
he has served in that capacity since.
His wife, Gyða Bergs (nee SchevingThorsteinsson), was bom in 1930.
They were married in 1954. Their children are, Laura, housewife and
office worker, Magnús Helgi, structuralengineerandcomptrollerand Jón
Gunnar, mechanical engineer and computer programmer.

Thomas E. Stefanson
will toast lceland at this
year's íslendingadagur
in Gimli
Mr. Stefanson was born in
Winnipeg in 1937 and is a descendant
of Icelandic pioneers who migrated to
Canada from Northern Iceland during
the 1870’s and 1880’s. He is the eldest
son of Sigrun and the late Eric Stefanson,
who passed away in 1977. Tom spent his childhood in Oak Point
and Gimli and to this day considers himself to have been very
fortunate in having spent his teenage years in Gimli. His entire adult
life has been in Winnipeg. In 1962, Tom married Diane Kleinfelder
of Winnipeg and they have two children, Jason, 21 and Colleen, 18.
He has three brothers, Dennis, Kris and Eric all of whom live in
Winnipeg.

A Chartered Accountant by profession, Mr. Stefanson established
his own public accounting practice in 1963 in which he participated
for 25 years as a partner and later as an associate. During the late
seventies and early eighties, Tom became involved in numerous small
businesses in which he actively participated. Although he is no longer
an active participant, he is still a shareholder and director of
several of these businesses. During August, 1989, Tom was
appointed Chairman of the Manitoba Telephone System and now
spends his time at the Company’s head office in Winnipeg.
