In this special Festival Issue there
are two Icelandic pages. On page 17,
we feature an interview with Þórdís
Lilja Jensdóttir, who has been the edi-
tor’s temporary assistant for the sum-
mer months. The editor talks about
how hard working Þórdís has been and
Þórdís reveals how much she has en-
joyed her work and stay here in Mani-
toba.
This is Þórdís’s third visit to
Manitoba and she comments on
what an interesting city Winnipeg is
to visit, and how well she has been
received. “Every time I mention
that I’m Icelandic people seem willing
to do everything for me,” says Þórdís.
“From this I draw the conclusion
that the Icelanders in Manitoba have
eamed themselves a good reputation,
from which I’m now benefitting.”
Þórdís also explains why she chose
coming to Winnipeg to do her jour-
nalism work training. “I have always
been very interested in Western Ice-
This spring, the First Lutheran
Church Choir recorded a selection of
favorite anthems and other musical
pieces, and has arranged for the dupli-
cation of that music on a cassette tape
format. The Choir has put together a
quantity of these cassette tapes for sale
to members of the congregation and
others interested in purchasing a copy.
The Choir is quite pleased with the

here. What I have enjoyed the
most, while working for Lögberg-
Heimskringla, is that one is a part of
every step of the paper’s creation —
from typesetting to layout.
On page 24, there is a very inter-
esting interview with the President of
Iceland, Vigdís Finnbogadóttir, which
Þórdís took before leaving Iceland in
June. President Vigdís talks about her
visit to Canada in 1989, The Viking

North America and what that journey
symbolizes, and she also sends West-
ern Icelanders her greetings.

results, from a musical standpoint at
least, and feel that the tape is repre-
sentative of its “personal best” per-
formances for the music involved. The
Choir members hope that those ac-
quiring the tape will enjoy listening to
their presentation as much as they en-
joyed preparing it.
A project such as this is not accom-
plished without a great deal of work on
the part of everyone involved with the
Choir, but it was a labour of love for
them all.
