HAFSTEINN BJARNASON
Hafsteinn Bjarnason varö Hafsteinn fékk var ferð til
sextugur 16. desember sl. —- íslands í sumar.
Stór hópur vina hans kom Ilafsteinn er fæddur i
saman á heimili Guðrúnar Wynyard, Sask., 16. desem-
og Arnar Jónssonar í Regina ber 1918, sonur Jakobs Frið-

fa:ddist í Kinmount, Ontario,
og \rilborgar Gísladóttur frá
Kirkjubæ i Hróarstungu.
Hafsteinn fluttist með for
eldrum sínum til Winnipeg
árið 1927. Hann giftist Lilli-
an Johannsson frá Lundar,
Manitoba árið 1939 og eiga
þau einn son, John í Van-
couver, og tvær dætur, Lilli-
an MacPberson í Edmonton
og Bernice Lindal í Vancouv
er.
Ilafsteinn fluttist til Reg-
ina árið 1957, og þar búa
þau hjón enn.
Þau föru heim til íslands
1968, og verður því ferðin í
sumar þeirra önnur ferð til
gamla landsins.
Þau hjón tala bæði góða
islensku, og þau hafa sér-
staka ánægju af öllu þvi sem
islenskt er. Heimiii þeirra er
mjög íslenskt, þar er ávallt
opið fyrir gesti, og þar ríkir
sérstög gestrisni.

LARUS JONASSON
Suddenly on February 14,
1979 at the Selkirk Generaí
Hospital, Mr. Larus Jonasson,
aged 69 years of 405 Selkirk
Ave., Selkirk and formerly of
Hecla, dearly beloved hus-
band of Asta Jonasson.
In his early years Mr. Jonas-
son fished on Lake Winnipeg
and lived at Hecla and the
Riverton district. He later was
a salmon fisherman in British
Columbia for 22 years and had
beeri a resident of Selkirk
since 1970.
Besides his wife, he leaves
surviving his daughter, Lor-
raine at home; two brothers,
Manni of Riverton and Joe of
Thunder Bay, Ont.
He was predeceased by his
son Lawrence in 1960, a
daughter in infancy, four
broihers, Sigridur, Tom, Ar-
mann and Oli and his sister
Rae.
Pallbearers will be, Paul
Palson, Alexander Jonasson,
Dori Halldorson, Kris Gri-
molfson, Grimsi Grimolfson
and Clifford Jonasson.

JON A. SIGVALDASON
On February 18, 1979, Mr.
Jon Adalsteinn Sigvaldason,
aged 77 years a longtime resi-
dent of Geysir. Man.
Mr. Sigvaldason, the son of
the late Mr. and Mrs. Sigvaldi
Sigvaldason had lived and
farmed in the Geysir district
most of his life. In his Iater
years, he was a resident at the
Sunrise Lodge, Arborg, and
the Betel Home in Gimli. In
his early years he was a com-
mercial fisherman on Lake
Winnipeg. He was a life
member of the Arborg Curling
Club and had been an active
member of the Geysir Luther-
an Church.
Predeceased by his
brothers, Valdimar, Bjarni
and Gudmundur, he leaves
surviving two brothers, Sigur-
dur of Arborg, Arilius of Ri-
verton and his nieces and
nephews.

GESTUR VIDAL
On Friday, February 16,
1979 at the Arborg Memorial
Hospital, Mr. Gestur Vidal
aged 84 years of Arborg and
Hnausa, Manitoba.
Mr. Vidal was born on Feb-
ruary 2, 1895 at Fitjun, Hnau-
sa, Manitoba, the son of the
late Sigurdur Jonsson Vidal
and Kristin Grimsdottir Vidal
who came to Canada from Ice-
land in the summer of 1887,
settling in the Hnausa Dis-
trict. He lived with his parents
and in later years took over
the family home and farm
with his sister Steinunn. In his
early years he freighted fish
on Lake Winnipeg with horses
and open sleigh from Jack-
head and other northern points
into Riverton. Since 1960 he
lived alone at his home at
Hnausa and for the past 12
years spent the winters with
his niece, Mrs. Solla Johnson
at Arborg. One of his greatest
pleasures was his trip to Ice-
land last year to see his
parents birthplace along with
his niece Solla and her daugh-
ter Linda. Gestur was a well-
respected and kindly man and
his^home was aiways open to
others.
He was predeceased by his
brothers, Haraldur, Sigvaldi,
Rognvaldur, sisters Sigridur,
Steinunn and Sigurros and a
brother and sister in infancy,
his half-sister Sigurlaug Mont-
gomery of. Thunder Bay, his
sister-in-law Gudrun Vidal on
December 16, 1978 and neph-
ews Haradur, Victor and Gri-
mur Vidal.
Left to mourn his passing, is
his sister-in-law Rublna Vidal
and family, Anna, Fjola and
Halli, his foster sister, SoIIa,
widow of Sveinbjom Johnson
of Arborg and her daughter
Linda; foster brother, Hannes
Vidal and his wife Joyce and
family Joanne, John, Brian
and Brenda of Watrous, Sask.;
nephew Harold Vidal of Bran-
don; niece Sigurros and her
husband Paul Palsson and
family, Valerie, Pat, Ray-
mond, Roslyn and Deanna of
Hnausa, nephew Sigurdur
Vidal and his wife Ellen and
family Sigrun, Valdine, Gor-
don, Shirley, Gladys, Her-
mann and Christopher of Win-
nipeg, the family of his late
nephew Grimur, Bessie Vidal
and daughter Verna; his niece
Gladys in Thunder Bay; five
,great-great-nieces and neph-
ews and many other relatives
and friends.
Funeral services will be
held on Wednesday, February
21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Arborg
Unitarian Church with Dr.
Phillip Petursson officiating.
Interment will follow in the
family plot at Hnausa.
His pallbearers will be Paul
Palsson, Palmi Palsson, Oli
Lindal, Pat Duguid, Sigurdur
Vidal and Sandy Partridge.
The Honorary pailbearers will
be Asmundur Grimolfson,
Mike Tataryn and Gunnar Si-
mundson.
In lieu of flowers those wish-
ing may contribute to the me-
morial Fund of the Arborg
Unitarian Church.
