Greetings from Premier Pawley
Lieut. Gov. George Johnson
The Lieutenant-
Governor's
Christmas Message
For nearly two thousand years, the
ringing Christmas message of peace
on earth and of goodwill has been a
source of inspiration and hope for
millions upon millions of people
throughout the world.
It is, too, a great family festival, so
joyously represented by that first
family Christmas in a stable in
Bethlehem.
In this, my first Christmas message
as Lieutenant-Governor of Manitoba,
my fervent hope is that these two
parallel forces are linked, and that
the family of nations will draw closer
together, united in peace and
friendship.
My wife and family join me in ex-
tending to each of you — and par-
ticularly to the children, for whom
Christmas has such a special mean-
ing — our hope for a season of joy,
and for happiness in the New Year.
George Johnson
Christmas has a timeless message
of hope, peace and friendship.
It is a time when we should pause
in our daily routine and rededicate
ourselves to work for its lofty theme
of peace and goodwill to all. It is a
time of giving and sharing — a time
to look beyond the differences that
divide us to a common humanity that
unites us. This determination to help
make a better world is the very spirit
of the Christmas message.
At this Christmas season, let us
grasp this message and resolve to
work for it by promoting under-
standing, justice, dignity, love and
compassion for all and a recognition
of the inherent good in all people.
And because Christmas is centered
on the family — particularly on the
children — let us bestow upon them
the warmth of family love and the
gifts of caring interest and a confident
outlook.
Adele and Howard Pawley
May this season be filled with
peace and fellowship, and may the
coming year hold a full measure of
happiness and renewed hope for
Season's Greetings
everyone.
On behalf of my wife Adele and
our children Chris and Charysse, I
wish you all a Merry Christmas!
Howard Pawley
In many ways 1986 has been a ban-
ner year for Lögberg-Heimskringla. It
marks the Centennial milestone of
Heimskringla to be followed by
Lögberg during 1988.
The visit by Mayor William Norrie
on Sept. 9th and his proclamation
declaring ''Lögberg-Heimskringla
week'' was a gratifying event.
The sponsorship by friends of the
Winnipeg Symphony in the name of
Lögberg-Heimskringla lent dignity to
our publication.
The coffee party during the late
afternoon of Nov. 15th was well at-
tended by faithful supporters of the
paper.
Many messages of goodwill have
been received including substantial
donations.
To our many friends we express
our gratitude and pledge to continue
our efforts in the best interests of
Lögberg-Heimskringla.
It is my pleasure to wish you all a
pleasant festive season and best
wishes during 1987.
On behalf of the board and staff,
Einar Arnason, President
