the trip but applauded Iceland's-in-
terest in involving a represeritative of
the Icelanders in North America in
the event, and offered the league's
good wishes.
A telegram of sympathy was.sent
to Peter Sigurgeirsson on the recent
loss of his brother.
Stefan brought up the incident of
the sinking of the whaling vessels
and the destruction of the whaling
stations in Iceland. It was felt that it
was imperative that the world com-
munity should understand that
the act was not condoned by the
Canadian people in general although
responsibility for the action was
claimed by a Canadian. A letter to
this effect was drawn up and sent to
the Prime Ministers of Canada and
Iceland respectively, and the
Minister of External Affairs of
Canada as well as the Icelandic Con-
sul in Winnipeg.
Neil reported on the Winnipeg
Symphony Orchestra concert that the
Lögberg-Heimskringla sponsored. He
said it had been well attended by
representatives of the Icelandic-
Canadian community. Unfortunate-
ly, the orchestra was unable to play
"O Gud Vors Lands" because they
were not able to acquire an or-
chestrated version of the music. The
reception held on Saturday was well
attended.
A1 reported on an article in "News
from Iceland" wherein the Icelandic
Consul-General was asking for a
response from Icelandic Clubs in the
USA in order to form a network of
Icelandic-American Associations. Oli
will contact him and give him a brief-
ing of the role and function of the
Icelandic National League. He will
also be put on the regular mailing list
for league minutes and correspon-
dence.
Gunnvor and Elva reported on the
progress for planning the annual con-
ference. Friday, March 27 will be
registration night with short business
meetings followed by a social gather-
ing. Saturday will consist of two
workshops (yet to be arranged) and
Sunday will be devoted to the main
business meeting. Communications
