_ VINDHAGA _
Vindhaga — the SW of 30-23-2E, is located in the Viðir
district 11 miles northwest of Arborg. The name Grashagi,
given by Valdimar Jóhannesson who settled on this land in
1920, means ‘Grass Pasture’ and is descriptive of the site.
The dative form of the name was chosen for the sign as more
easily pronounced. The sign was put up by Lynne
Johannesson Bazilewich, a granddaughter.

With the additional census
records and the information
provided by Nelson Gerrard at
Hofsós, we now have many
more years of research ahead
of us. But most of all, we have
now made the connection to
the landscape and to our
Icelandic relatives that was
missing before this journey.
This adds an entirely new and
personal dimension to our
research.
The connection with our
Icelandic relatives would not
have been possible were it not
for Nelson and for this we
offer our everlasting thanks, as
well as for his invaluable assis-
tance with our family research
both here in Canada as well as
during our visit to Hofsós.
While we had both visited
Iceland before, this trip was
the culmination of a dream and
the voyage of a lifetime and
we are determined that it will
not be our last visit to Iceland.
