Gryla
What do you say about eat-
ing chocolate? This winter,
what with Christmas, and
Valentine's Day, and soon
Easter, I have been a total pig!
I must have eaten three kilos of
chocolate! I can't stop, I guess.
But my boyfriend says it's
starting to show. That really
hurts, but I'm afraid he might
be right.
Can you give me some
advice, like if I should throw
him into a cement truck or
something? I'm feeling really
low.
Thanks,
Chocoholic
Toronto, ON
Dear Chocoholic,
You have so many prob-
lems 1 don't even know where
to start. Okay, first, why are
you eating chocolate if you're
trying to get fat? Why don't
you try something that actually
tastes GOOD, like musk ox
horns? I have a cousin in
Greenland who makes an
antler-and-tripe ice cream to
diefor. I'll send you the recipe.
Second, the fact that you can't
stop is a good thing; it's your
body telling you you're not big
enough yet. Keep eating.
Third, your boyfriend is obvi-
ously a man of the world; in
trollish circles, young suitors
always ply their trollkonur
with "Oh, you're my vast sack
oflard," or" You're so huge you
could prevent the midnight
sun." Your young man is just
trying to make you feel better.
So buck up girl, and try to
fatten up. And don't worry, I
have all this on good authority,
it's right here in my Human
Cookbook—er, ah, "health
book," I mean. Heh.
Dear Grýla,
I have trouble sleeping at
night. What do trolls do?

Dear Insomniac,
Well, usually what we do is
wait ‘til you're asleep, and
THEN we come in, but in cases

Ovenjulegt brúðkaup var

hjónaefni marséruðu síðust um

ingsklæddir og konur í
brúðarkjólum. Þegar vélin var

Unusual
Wedding
An unusual wedding took
place on the night of 14
February aboard Icelandair
flight en route from Baltimore
to Iceland. The last to march
aboard the plane to Wagner's
wedding march were five cou-
ples. The men clad in tuxedos
and the women in wedding
gowns. When the plane was
half way to Iceland a judge
who was aboard married the
couples. All of this was
because of Valentine’s Day
and a special offer made by
Icelandair in honour of the
occasion.

CD Review
Nathan
Stranger
(Independent), 2001
David Jón Fuller
WlNNIPEG, MB
On their first album
Stranger, Winnipeg band
Nathan may seem hard to cat-
egorize, but that doesn't
detract from their great sound.
If anything, the melodies
are understated; this might
tempt you to label them a folk
band. Singer Keri McTighe's
voice, high pitched but
strangely soothing, weaves
through songs like "Swingin'"
and "Glorious Exhaust" with
an almost hypnotic effect. The
drums, guitar, and bass, how-
ever, often play a faster
rhythm, and the result is a tex-
tured, melodic sound that
seems capable of encompass-
ing more than one genre.
Stranger and Malana, for
instance, sound almost as if
Johnny Cash had been lurking
in the recording studio. Bass
guitarist, Devon Latimer, has
roots in the Icelandic commu-
nity.
The songwriting is strong,
too; most tracks are written or
co-written by McTighe.
Overall, a great album.
Released independently, it
may be difficult to find, but
anyone interested in listening
to a band you'll likely be hear-
ing a lot about in the next few
years can contact them at
