Many readers will remem-
ber Hulda Karen
Daníelsdóttir, former Editor of
the Lögberg-Heimskringlci.
Whil.e in Iceland in the sum-
mer of 2002, I had the pleas-
ure of a visit at her home with
her family - husband Guy
Stewart, son Maggi and nine-
year-old daughter Sólveig. It
was so good to see them - and
learn all about their time since
leaving Canada.
Hulda worked as Assistant
Editor at Lögberg-
Heimskringla from 1988 to
1989. She was appointed
Editor-in-Chief in 1989, with
duties as office manager from
1990-1993. She also taught
two courses at the University
of Manitoba during her first
two years at L-H. Hulda says
that consequently, every job
she has taken on since her
time at Lögberg-Heimskringla
has seemed easy by compari-
son. She returned to Iceland
in 1994 after seventeen years
in Canada.
What Hulda enjoyed most
about working as Editor for
Lögberg-Heimskringla was

In 1994, Hulda Karen and
her family moved to
Hellissandur, a small fishing
town on Iceland’s Snæfellsnes
peninsula. She taught school
there until 1996, when she and
her family moved to
Reykjavík. She then taught
Drama and English at a new
high school, Borgarholtsskóli.
Last year, Hulda Karen
took on the role of Teacher
Advisor at the Education
Service Centre in Reykjavík,
administering the teaching of
Icelandic as a second lan-

city. Her current responsi-
bilities include organizing
continuing education for
teachers; teaching at in-serv-
