Lögberg-Heimskringla • Föstudagur 21. október 2005 • 15 Iceland donates $10,000 to Fensala Hall restoration Shirley Dye MARKERVILLE, AB — On September 11, five visi- tors from Iceland came to see the Fensala Hall, the Creamery Museum, the church and the Stephansson House Historic Site. The visitors were Arni Magnússon, Minister of Social Affairs for Iceland; Sigurjón Örn Thorsson, political Advi- sor to the Social Minister; Ólöf Sigvaldadóttir, Policy Advi- sor; Þrúður Helgadóttir, wife of Consul General for Iceland; and Almar Grímssom, presi- denl óf the Icelandic National League - Iceland. After a tour of Fensala Hall and the Creamery, the guests enjoyed coffee and cookies in the bright afternoon sun. Min- ister Magnússon thanked us and announced that the Icelan- dic Govemment will donate $ 10,000 toward completing the restoration of Fensala Hall. They then went to the Stephansson House Historic Site to tour the poet Stephans- son’s restored home. Much of the restoration work on Fensala Hall has been completed and the gift from the Government of Iceland will al- low it to be finished and ready for use in November. I posed the question: “Is there something special about that day?” Kristin replied that it was her 75th birthday, and she was hosting a party for all her fam- ily and friends. She stated that 120 people had been invited to her two-bedroom apartment. Now that’s performance! 1 did attend the party, and was amazed at how well the day went. Assisted by her family and friends, her table was delightful and the food was delicious. It was her party —- and she was thrilled at the outcome. Krislin is a lady who makes one feel special. When you leave hercompany, it is al- ways with a feeling of love and respect. Kristin continues to keep in contact with her child- Kristin Thomasson hood friends, old neighbours, friends from her working days — and even the odd acquain- tance with whom she and her late husband Hannes had met while square dancing.
