Optimist Club. His past experience in organization will be greatly
to our benefit.
Whereas we have noted with interest and pleasure the in-
creasing awareness of the public that Alcohol is a public problem;
Be it resolved that we extend our greetings and best wishes to the
new organization in this province, who have interested themselves
in the alcohol problem; namely the Alcoholic’s Anonymous, The
Winnipeg Institute of Alcohol Studies, The Manitoba Committee
on Alcohol, under the leadship of Mr. Justice Ralph Maybank com-
mittee chairman, in the opening ceremony said, “The problem of
our activities is to get all people to accept the fact of alcoholism
as a disease, treatment is possible.”
To further open our eyes to the need to stand together is the
fact we all know the tremendous profits derived from this devastat-
ing traffic. In Manitoba alone, the profit was 8 million dollars and
over during the fiscal year 1951-1952.
Good habits are not made on birthdays, nor Christian character
at the New Year. The workshop of character is every-day life. The
uneventful and common-place hour is where the battle is lost or won.
