has important mission •
The 57th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, a recent
winner of the Hughes Trophy, is a unique squadron
in many ways. As the last operational Air Force
unit to operate the F-102 Delta Daggers, it is the
only fighter squadron specifically designated for
the air defense of Iceland.
The most important role played by the 18 primary
pilots and their 14 aircraft is to intercept the
Russian Bear and Badger aircraft, and other un-
identified planes operating in the North Atlantic.
