Dragons replace
Woodpeckers as
base VP squadron
Patrol Squadron 56 began to
arrive on Nov. 26 and by Dec. 2
the Dragons had taken over. They
replaced the VP-49 Woodpeckers
who were on their way back to
Patuxent River, Md.
The Dragons adjusted to their
new environment, quite a climate
change from Jacksonville, Fla.,
and are settled down for their
winter stay.
VP-56 is no newcomer to the
Island as this is their second
deployment to Iceland in the past
year.
Commander Hulon P. Fillingane
assumed command of the Dragons on
Nov. 23 after acting as executive
officer for the previous year.
The new executive officer is CDR.
James B. Kramer who came to the
squadron from the Office of Naval
Operations in Washington, D.C.

University of Maryland regis-
tration for Term III, beginning
Jan. 10 or 11, is now in pro-
gress .
Course offerings include In-
troduction to Mathematics (Math
110 and 111), Labor Legislation,
Introduction to Psychology, Ice-
landic Language One, American
Government, International Politi-
cal Relations, American History
to 1865 and Mental Hygiene in the
Classroom.
Classes are offered on Mondays
and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and
Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30
p.m. and run for a period of 12
weeks.

LOCAL CUB SCOUTS CONTRIBUTE TO
CHARITY: Spending their own money,
the Cub Scouts from Den 2 of Pack
364 spent Monday afternoon at Toy-
land deciding what they wanted to
purchase. They finally decided to
get one gift for the Yarder's Boys
Home. The date of delivery is Wed-
nesday and along with the present,
they are taking a bag of candy.
• SANTA VISITS CPO WIVES TOMORROW: Santa will be visiting the
CPO Wives Club Christmas party for children of club members tomor-
row from 3 until 5 p.m. in the old Rod & Gun Club Bldg..
ROMAN CATHOLIC MILITARY VICAR TO VISIT NATO BASE: Terence
Cardinal Cooke, Roman Catholic Military Vicar will visit the NATO
base next weekend. He is scheduled to celebrate Mass at 9 a.m.,
Dec. 19, in the base chapel.
• OLD FASHIONED CHRISTMAS: "Old Fashioned Christmas" is the
theme of the Officers Wives Club Christmas Ball tomorrow evening
starting at 7 p.m. at the 0-Club. Chairman Gayle Ehlers and her

quest from three young boys in the States who are putting together
display of military insignias. They would like to obtain any
rank insignias, shoulder boards, rating badges, jacket patches,
medals or any other official or unofficial items. The condition
of the items is not important. If you have something that vjj
