WHITE September 12, 1980 Volume 23, Number 36 Keflavik, Iceland FALCON ^_Ke: # News briefs Fil-Am supper tomorrow The Fil-Am Association Hail and Bless Pot Luck supper will be held tomorrow at the Glacier Hut. The festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m. and all members and their friends are welcome. Halburian selected top Airman A1C Sam R. Halburian was se- lected as the 932nd ACWS' Airman of the Month for August. Airman Halburian, an Aerospace Warning Systems Technician, came directly to Iceland from Technical School at Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi. Study Group meets Monday A special Christian Study Group is conducted each Monday at 7 p.m. in the Chaplain's Conference Room at the Base Chapel. All couples d single military personnel are vited to attend these sessions 'onducted by Chaplain Schade. Catholic Mass schedule A new Catholic Mass schedule will become effective this weekend at the Base Chapel. The cele- bration of Catholic Mass will be at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday and at 9 a.m. and 12:45 p.m. on Sunday. Daily Catholic Masses will be celebrated at 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. Gas prices increase Effective on Oct. 4, the price of gasoline at the Navy Exchange Service Station will be increased by 10c. Red Cross to hold orientation The American Red Cross chapter will hold its Volunteer Orienta- tion on Monday. The Orientation is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at the base Community Center. Each volunteer who serves the Red Cross on a continuing basis is a representative of the total ser- vice organization. The purpose of the Red Cross Volunteers in Keflavik is to provide trained lunteer assistance at the Hospi- 1, Dental Clinic and plan to tart a youth program. Asst. Dr. Mann viewed the 960th AWACSS E3-A aircraft with Rear Admiral Richard A. Martini (left), Com- mander Iceland De- fense Force; Colonel Glenn R. (Photo by PH2 Craig Rie- dell) Fire Department's 1980 Prevention Program begins Fire prevention—much is said and done about it. If you were to find yourself in the middle of a fire would you know what to do? To provide oc- cupants of Haval Station Keflavik with this information will be the pri- mary mission of the Naval Station Fire Department as they begin their 1980 Naval Station Home Fire Prevention ---- Program. Chief Fire Inspector Astvaldur Eiriksson recently announced the family quarters' inspection schedule has been set up to begin on 15 Sep- tember and end 21 October. "Instead of beginning at Fire Prevention Week we will conduct our Fire Prevention Week activities in the middle of the inspection program," Chief Eiriksson said. The objective of the home in- spection program is to identify and explain fire and safety hazards to the building occupants. As a repre- sentative of the Naval Station Fire Department inspects your quarters he will explain the hazards he finds (See Prevention, P.3) Ft. Sam Houston Bank to replace American Express The National Bank of Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, Texas was re- cently selected by the Department of Defense for operation of the mili- tary banking facility here on the Naval Station. American Express will continue providing banking ser- vices until the necessary approvals are obtained from the Icelandic Government for establishment of op- erations by the National Bank of Fort Sam Houston.
