Two Christmas stamps
go on sale Monday
Two 1983 Christmas stamps were issued in
two different locations for the first time
today; they will goon sale at the Base Post
Office on Monday morning. Both the contem-
porary and traditional stamps will be is-
sued in the standard commemorative size.
The traditional stamp was issued in
Washington, DC, and features a madonna
and child painted by Raphael, a noted Ital-
ian Renaissance painter. The painting
hangs in the National Gallery of Art, where
the first day of issue ceremony was held.
The contemporary Christmas stamp was is-
sued in Santa Claus, IN, where the name of
the city will add a seasonal significance
to the first day of issue cancellation. The
design features Santa Claus.
Customers desiring first day cover (FDC)
cancellations are urged to buy stamps and
affix them to their own covers. All cov-
ers must be addressed on the right side at
least 5/8-inch up from the bottom. Insert
a filler in each envelope and mail covers
by November 27 to: Customer-Affixed Envel-
opes, Postmaster, Washington, DC 20066-9991
(for the traditional stamp) or to: Post-
master, Santa Claus, IN 47579-9991 (for the
contemporary stamp). No remittance is re-
quired.
Veteran's Day Falcon
Our Veteran's Day issue, a four-page edi-
tion, will be available for pickup at the
White Falcon offices on Thursday, November
10, at 7:30 a.m.
Some people do it right, others just do it!
Vision loss of one or both eyes is often
the result of jump starting a vehicle like
some people do it. Recently one of the
station employees was jump starting a ve-
hicle when the battery exploded into his
face, due to the application of the incor-
rect method.
Fortunately no serious injuries were ex-
perienced.
The only way to jump start is by con-
necting positive to positive and negative
to a good ground, such as the engine block
and as far away from the battery as pos-
sible -- to avoid the explosive gases ris-
ing from the battery.
