TM1 David Scarbrough (right), accepts a $250 cash award and certi-
ficate for his MILCAP suggestion from Naval Station, Commanding Of-
ficer, Capt. George T. Lloyd.
Story by Lt. Gary Ton
During a ceremony at the Naval Station recently, TM1 David Scar-
brough, of the Torpedo Division of the Weapons Department, was pre-
sented with a certificate and cash award for an idea he submitted
under the Military Cash Award Program (MILCAP).
Capt. George T. Lloyd, Naval Station Commanding Officer, pre-
sented Petty Officer Scarbrough with a cash award of $250 for his
suggestion, titled, "Hazardous Waste Deposal Portable Shower". The
system allows personnel to work in an area with proper attention &
focus on personal safety.
In addition to supplying the idea, PO Scarbrough, also designed
the shower unit, resulting in a considerable savings for the gov-
ernment.
In presenting the cash award, Capt. Lloyd indicated that, "Pet-
ty Officer Scarbrough's suggestion has brought credit upon himself
by calling attention to a problem and going one step further by de-
signing an apparatus which serves as a solution to that problem."
Navy seeks more
new aviators in
fiscal year 86
WASHINGTON (NNS) — As The
Navy continues to expand to reach
its total of 600 ships, recruit-
ing goals for officers have near-
ly doubled and recruiters are be-
ing asked to triple the number of
pilots recruited two years ago.
The goal for recruiting pilots
in Fy-1986 is 1,093 vs the FY-
1984 goal of 334. In order to
reach its new goals, recruiting
is processing applications at a
much quicker rate than before.
An applicant could receive orders
to Aviation Officer Candidate
School, Pensacola, Fla., within
a few weeks of his final selec-
tion.
The application minimum stand-
ards for pilots remain unchanged.
The Navy is not going to sacri-
fice quality for quantity. To
apply,a person must have a four-
year degree at an accredited col-
lege or university, meet all
physical requirements, pass the
aviation selection test battery
and be no older than 27 on date
of commissioning.
Enlisted personnel who meet
the requirements and are inter-
ested can contact their Career
Counselor. Information on all
enlisted commissioning programs
is contained in BUPERS 1120.2.
