A fun- filled day is sure to be had. August 2-5 Akureyri Backpackers Andri Kristins One of Iceland's hippest hostels hosts Andri Kristins for this edition of their Live Music Wednesdays series. Join them on what's sure to be a pleasantly laid-back night. August 13 at 21:00 Una Stef Akureyri Backpackers plays host to promising young Icelandic singer Una Stef. Touring around Iceland for the release of her latest album, 'Songbook,' her soulpop/R&B is perfect for Backpackers' laid-back setting. Don't miss the chance to see the woman often described as "the Icelandic Alicia Keys" in this intimate setting. August 14 at 21:00 Flóra Creation Artist Kristín Gunnlaugsdóttir’s visual art exhibition focuses on addressing taboos such as women’s exploration of their libido and how they too see themselves from the male gaze. Expect to see genitalia from a different point of view. Runs until August 16 Græni Hatturinn Dúndurfréttir Don't miss the chance to see one of Iceland's top classic rock cover bands. August 1 at 22:00 Retro Stefson One of Iceland's top young groups, Retro Stefson has quickly developed a reputation for putting on a killer live show. Their eclectic euro-disco integrates latin grooves and utilizes top-notch live instrumentation. August 2 at 22:00 Kaleo Icelandic country, you say? With American country, blues, and classic rock influences, Kaleo's songs may sound like a bunch of covers, but they aren't we swear! August 3 at 23:00 Pétur Ben The 5-piece Icelandic indie rock band bring their tough tunes to Akureyri at one of Iceland’s finest music venues. August 14 at 22:00 Listagilið Icelandic Contemporary Portraits - Character Descriptions In The 21st Century During the show you can see how 70 artists have struggled with the concept of the portrait from the last century through the present day. Among the artists who have works in the exhibition are Ragnar Kjartansson, Kristin Gunnlaugsdóttir, Sigurðardóttir Þórarinsdóttir and Aðalheiður S. Eysteinsdóttir. Björnsson has pioneered graphic design in Iceland, establishing his own advertising agency and running the graphic design course at Iceland's old art school which has since been amalgamated into the Iceland Academy of the Arts. TC Hjalteyri The Factory Kunstschlager At The Factory Join Kunstschlager for a 'carnival fiesta' at an abandoned herring factory-cum-cultural centre in the pearl of the north, Hjalteyri. Expect installations, video, BBQs, a bazar, a bonfire and more, all whilst a group of talented young artists provide a selection of interesting new works. August 2 to September 2 Mývatn Sigurgeir's Bird Museum The collection includes almost all of Iceland's birds along with some 100 different types of eggs. The museum educates about birds, the ecology of Lake Mývatn and how locals utilised water in their everyday lives. On permanent display Sauðarkrókur Gæran Gæran is an annual music festival taking place in rural Borgarmýri. Bands playing will include Kiriyama Family, Úlfur Úlfur, Johnny And The Rest, Una Stef, Boogie Trouble, Dimma, Reykjavíkurdætur, Skúli Mennski and more. August 14 to 16 Skagafjörður The Glaumbær Farm The farm was functional until 1947, and opened as an exhibition space in 1952. The old turf farmhouse forms the backdrop for exhibitions focusing on rural life in 18th and 19th century Iceland. On permanent display East Iceland Egilsstaðir Eskifjörður Randulff's Sjóhús This beautifully preserved 1890s sea house is now a museum with several items on display that show the atmosphere of East Iceland during the time that herring fishing really took off in the late 19th and early 20th century. Runs until August 31 Seyðisfjörður Skaftafell Centre for Visual Art Tvísöngur The site-specific sound sculpture by German artist Lukas Kühne, is embedded in the mountainside above the town, in a quiet area with a breathtaking view of the fjord. It offers an acoustic sensation that can be explored and experimented with. On Permanent Display Stöðvarfjörður Petra's Stone Collection In the small fjord of Stöðvarfjörður there is a collection of rare rocks and minerals, most of which have been collected by Petra Sveinsdóttir from the surrounding area.
